The Role:
• This position is a hands-on management role that will approximately be split into 20% of time being spent on staff supervision/site management activities and 80% being spent on chargeable activities such as engine building, mechanical engineering and parts management.
• The overall purpose of the role is to ensure that all work carried out within the workshop is delivered to the highest standards of quality and in line with agreed deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for job allocation and job flow in the workshop including job scheduling and labour allocation for day to day operations
• Co-ordinate resources, (operational and human) schedules and activities to effectively manage jobs
• Check time sheets of others to ensure chargeable time is accurately recorded
• Report progress on each job and quickly communicate delays or concerns with the General Manager.
• Report on manpower overruns or shortfalls
• Act as a technical adviser on key projects and other areas of the business as requested
• Work with CES Administrator to respond to Client’s requests for updates on the status of their jobs and keep the communication channels open to ensure information is accurate
• Identify Client’s needs and explain/demonstrate CES services to them, which may involve technical descriptions of parts and the way they may be used. Ensure pricing structure is accurately explained and transparent during such discussions.
• Receive and review feedback from customers and work with CES Administrator on follow up to ensure customer satisfaction
• Work with General Manager and Directors to investigate customer complaints and concerns arising from parts and suggest appropriate solutions. Discuss with team to identify appropriate course of action
• Identify staff that require on-going training and implement training opportunities to ensure their skills are improved. Work with apprentices and semi-skilled staff to role model appropriate technical skills
• Provide feedback to staff that are not performing to the expected level and ensure human resources are informed of trends in performance
• Promote a Health & Safety culture within the business

Key Mechanical Engineering and Chargeable Accountabilities:
• Carry out all aspects of engine building and mechanical engineering to highest standards of quality
• Ensure supplies are ordered for each job
• Assist with estimating, Project Management, materials purchasing and quality checks
• Ensure correct Job Numbers are used and that time records are correct for own work
• Provide oversight and check job estimates
• Manage inward goods, checking quantities, dispatching goods and receipting invoices

Minimum Qualifications:
• Qualified Mechanical Engineer
